Observatory Overview

2 min read

Observatory is the project analytics area in Hawzu. It helps teams turn testing data into focused dashboards that answer practical quality questions, such as release readiness, execution progress, repository coverage, requirement traceability, and defect pressure.

Observatory is built from two main parts:

  • Panels organize related charts into a dashboard.
  • Charts show a specific metric, trend, or distribution inside a panel.

Use Observatory when you want to review testing health across a project without opening each work area one by one.

Common uses include:

  • Reviewing repository coverage by priority, severity, test type, or automation status
  • Tracking execution outcomes and test case status distribution
  • Monitoring linked defects by status, severity, or priority
  • Reviewing requirement coverage and traceability pressure
  • Building focused dashboards for release reviews, team check-ins, and quality planning

The Observatory page opens to a list of panels. Each panel is a dashboard container with a title, description, chart count, and actions for editing or deleting the panel.

Open a panel to view its charts together in a dashboard layout.

Charts live inside panels. A chart can be added from:

  • Smart Insights, which are ready-made chart suggestions
  • Custom Builder, where you choose the data source, fields, and chart type
  • Request Chart, where you describe a chart you want the Hawzu team to provide

Observatory currently supports charts from these project data areas:

  • Repository: priority, severity, test type, and automation status
  • Executions: test cases, result status, linked defects, and requirements
  • Requirements: linked test cases, linked defects, and coverage signals
  • Defects: status, severity, and priority

The available chart fields and chart types depend on the selected data source.

Observatory access depends on your project permissions. You need access to view the Observatory area before you can open panels and charts. Creating, updating, or deleting panels and charts may also depend on the access granted to your project role.
